Local Plant Database

Many of our members have commented on visits to gardens in other parts of the country that they are not sure whether some of the plants would grow successfully in our area, with its wet, cold winters and fairly damp summers. For that reason, we intend to develop a database of plants that grow successfully in our area, whether as garden plants able to survive our conditions all the year round, or as specimen plants that may require special treatment, e.g. lifting in winter, protecting from rain, providing extra drainage.

In order to build up our database, we invite both members and non-members to submit details of plants they know grow successfully in the Bolton/Blackburn area. The form below sets out the kind of information we would like. You may not be able to complete all of the questions, but that does not matter; fill in what you can, and click on the 'Submit' button at the end. Your record will then be automatically added to a spreadsheet for us to review.

It would be particularly useful if you could supplement your answers with a photograph of the plant growing in your garden. This is especially the case if you are not sure of the name of the plant.  Your information will still be valuable, and a photograph will both help in confirming the plant identity and add to our image database of locally successful plants. Please see this page for information about copyright. Please do not submit images taken from elsewhere as they will be subject to copyright.  You will find an email link for submitting photographs or otherwise communicating with the database maintainers below the form.

Please note: under the 'Postcode' question, we simply need the first 4 characters of your postcode. This enables us to identify the district you are in but does not identify your individual address. Please do not enter your full postcode.
