THE DAY
Our first visit is to Biddulph
Grange, leaving Edgworth at 9-00am arriving at 10-30 am. Biddulph
grange is a large varied garden with many different themed areas. It
was developed from 1840 by James Bateman and his wife Maria, they had a
particular love of azaleas and rhododendrons. While here there is an
option of taking a guided tour of the garden which must be booked in
advance, the tour lasts for 1 ½ hours and costs an extra
£7-80 per adult - including by National Trust members. Please
indicate on the sheet if you would like to take the tour.
Leaving Biddulph Grange at 2-00pm we
travel the short distance to Little Morton Hall. This is a 15th and
16th century moated manor house made of traditional wattle and daub,
the last major extension being added between 1570-80. In the 20th
century the gardens were returned to their Tudor condition and a
‘Knot’ garden was planted in the 1980s.
Free tours of the ground floor are
available.
There is a tea room at both venues
and a restaurant at Little Morton Hall.
We will leave for home at
approximately 5-00pm
