SPRING EVENING VISIT - 16 MAY 2007
JOHN
BENT'S GARDEN, GLAZEBURY
We were joined on our trip around the garden by John who acted as our guide. He is understandably very knowledgeable about the garden and it's planting and his pride in his achievements was obvious as he showed us around. The garden was developed with peace and tranquillity in mind and despite being next door to a busy main road and the thriving Garden Centre, such is its success that you are totally unaware of the neighbouring surroundings. The garden is split up into various sections, which are hidden from the each other by mature trees and shrubs. These “rooms”, of varying sizes, are joined
together by lawns, ponds or flowerbeds and
subsequent planting has ensured they remain totally
individual. |

The garden is much bigger than it initially appears with hidden paths and wooded areas creating a sense of natural growth throughout. Shrubs and trees are not cut back regularly and
plants have been allowed to develop as they would in
the wild, reseeding naturally in places where you
wouldn’t necessarily think of planting them
yourself. With new spring growth flourishing everywhere, our
journey around the garden was a delight, even though
the "traditional" persistent rain had been arranged
for the evening. When we had had our fill, we retreated to the
Garden Centre next door for tea and cakes, which
were most welcome. |
